DENBY OPEN GARDENS

A biannual event held for the first time in 2018; fifteen gardens in our beautiful village opened their gates for us to come in & enjoy.

There was plenty to see with gardens of all shapes and sizes taking part, including a collection of four compact but stunning spaces at Denroyd Barns.

With a gin and prosecco bar plus plenty of tea and cakes there was an air of celebration.

Denby First School was open for its annual summer fair and the children are proudly showing off their vegetable garden which they’ve been working on since early spring.

Throughout the village there were garden games and a kid’s quiz called ‘Hunt the Hedgehog’ for youngsters to take part in, so they did not get bored whilst the adults enjoyed the variety of plants, flowers and scrubs to see.

With a plant sale on the village green there was an the opportunity to buy a flower or shrub to take home.

There were animals as well as gardens to look at with chickens and saddleback pigs to find and even the village peacock put in an appearance.

If all that wasn’t enough the village also boasted a pirate ship set in a wildflower meadow and a life size Hobbit House to explore.

All monies raised went towards the St. John's Church Reconfiguration Project (denbyvillagehall.org) and Denby Village Conservation Group.
